Aquaknights Swimmers!

GREAT JOB on Saturday against the Benicia Stingrays!  Although we competed with a smaller group of swimmers, everyone worked hard and we WON the meet by more than 70 points.  The meet was very well run and the Stingrays were very gracious hosts.

Schedule.  We have a couple of reminders for the schedule this week:
- Monday - Regular practice schedule
- Tuesday - NO AFTERNOON PRACTICE due to the Oakland Athletics baseball game!
- Wednesday - Regular practice schedule - LAST CHANCE to turn in your swim-a-thon pledge forms and donations to earn swimmer incentives
- Thursday - Regular practice schedule - LAST CHANCE to sign in to the Wednesday, July 8th meet against the East County Stingrays
- Friday - NO MORNING or AFTERNOON PRACTICE for 4th of July holiday!

Swim-a-thon.  Please remember to turn in your pledge form with your earned donations no later than this Wednesday, 1 July to ensure we can order swimmer awards on time! Please put your pledge form and money in a sealed envelope and put it either in the "Toth" or "Halter" family folders or in the lock box on the side of the filing cabinet.  Please contact Lisa Toth or Mary Halter if you have any questions!

Artists needed!  Each year the Twin Counties Swim League holds a contest for the swimers to design the logo for the championship meet t-shirts.  The winner will receive a free t-shirt from the league!  There are 7 teams in the league and the only requirement is that the logo design should include the following teams: American Canyon Ahi, Aquaknights, Benicia Stingrays, Crockett Crocodiles, Hercules Piranhas, Martinez Otters, and Vista Diablo Dolphins. Please submit your design no later than Thursday, 9 July Theresa Meads, Jeff Lapum and Tracy Fogelstrom.  All swimmers who submit a logo will receive a prize and we will hold a special contest among all Aquaknights entries!

Board News!  We are very excited to announce that we have two new volunteers who recently joined the board.
- Tracy Fogelstrom - Co-Vice President - Social Director - She will be responsible for organizing activities throughout the season to enhance team spirit (such as buddy picnic, family fun nights, swim-a-thon, team pictures, etc.) as well as coordinate with the Age Group Parent Volunteers.  She will also assit with planning swimmer awards and end-of-season ceremony.
- Renee Hally - Team Representative - She will help facilitate/foster relations between team families and the board as well as between parents and coaches. In addition, she will assist with team memberships and coordinating with team sponsors and donors.
We are very fortunate to have Tracy and Renee join the board in an effort to make our team even better for all swimmers! Thank you!

Have a great week and HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!

Ribbon Policy for Home Meets
Aquaknights provides a variety of awards to motivate swimmers to include ribbons at home meets. Ribbons are awarded to the top 8 swimmers in the first heat in each individual event for all age groups (only first and second place ribbons are awarded for the medley and free relays). Swimmers 10 years and younger in the second heat and later receive a participant "AWESOME" ribbon with their event and time swum for each race (unless the swimmer is disqualified). Swimmers 11 years and older who finish in first place in the second heat and later will receive a "heat winner" ribbon immediately after completing the race, but this ribbon will not have the swimmer information or time on the reverse. Heat winner ribbons are not given to swimmers 10 years and younger because they will receive a ribbon in their family folder for every event they swim! Per Twin Counties Swim League rules, only swimmers in the first heat scores points and thus receives 1st through 8th place ribbons. We hope his clarifies any questions you may have regarding ribbons and we encourage swimmers to focus on achieving their personal best!

- Jeff Lapum annd Robin Shmitt designed and built the sturdy dividers that will surround the competitive pool at our home meets. These dividers ensure safety and that coaches and stroke and turn officials have space to run our meets.  THANK YOU!
